Muzakir, better known as Mualem, said the extension was based on the coordination with the central government, as well as a letter from the Home Minister dated January 7, 2026, regarding the status extension.
He said that the decision was made in consideration of ongoing disaster response efforts and on-the-ground conditions, including the fact that some areas remain isolated and that logistics movement remains limited.
The governor explained that the extension aims to ensure environmental clean-up, the distribution of logistical assistance, health services, and the restoration of community access could be carried out more quickly and in a coordinated manner.
The emergency status was first declared in Aceh on November 27, 2025, and has now been extended three times.
According to BNPB data, the floods and landslides that struck Aceh and two more provinces in Sumatra, namely North Sumatra and West Sumatra late November last year, claimed, 1,178 victims and displaced more than 238,500 people.
